António Canatário Duarte, docente da Escola Superior Agrária do IPCB, foi convidado para integrar a equipa de editores de um número especial da revista FRONTIERS IN WATER, sob a temática "Water Quality in Catchments: Insights from Long-Term Nutrient Monitoring and Assessment".

A equipa editorial será composta por António Canatário Duarte (ESA/IPCB), Maria Luz Rodríguez-Blanco (Universidad de Vigo, Espanha) e Qian Zhang (University of Maryland, Center for Environmental Science, USA).

O abstract deste número especial da publicação é o seguinte: "Nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, are essential for plant growth. However, excessive, or inadequate application of these nutrients can lead to degradation of water quality and biodiversity in aquatic ecosystems. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of nutrient transport dynamics is crucial for anticipating and preventing the effects on water quality and fluvial ecosystems. The objective of this special issue is to gather and disseminate up-to-date and relevant scientific information on the processes that affect nutrient transport at the catchment scale, and how these processes impact water quality. Specifically, we are interested in long-term studies that advance our understanding of the interactions between nutrient dynamics, rainfall patterns and hydrological processes, land use changes, and climate change. We welcome contributions that explore the use of innovative methodologies and tools, such as remote sensing, modelling, and machine learning, for assessing nutrient transport and management at different scales.

Keywords: nutrients, catchment, water quality, long-term monitoring, management"
